JAMBI | The Jambi Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, along with the Class I Immigration Office of the Jambi TPI, deported two foreign nationals (WNA) from Yemen with the initials FAM (27) and AHM (24). The two were found guilty of committing immigration violations by attempting to illegally obtain Republic of Indonesia Travel Documents (DPRI).
Head of the Jambi Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, Petrus Teguh Aprianto, in Jambi, Wednesday (18/2/2026), said the action was the result of collaborative supervision and law enforcement in his work area.
“Any immigration violation will be dealt with firmly without exception,” he said.
Entry with a Tourist Visa
This case began when FAM and AHM entered Indonesia via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on January 23, 2026 using a Tourist Visit Visa (C1) with a validity period of 60 days.
However, instead of undertaking a tourist visit as stipulated by the visa, the two are suspected of using Indonesian population documents to apply for Indonesian passports through the M-Passport application.
On Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 8:15 a.m. WIB, the two visited the Jambi Class I Immigration Office to follow up on their application. Accompanied by two Indonesian citizens, they submitted several documents, including their e-KTP (electronic ID card), family card, and birth certificate extract.
Revealed During Interview
The officers’ suspicions arose during the interview and biometric recording process. FAM and AHM were unable to adequately answer the officers’ questions in Indonesian. The officers then directed the two to an examination room for further questioning by the immigration intelligence and enforcement team (Inteldakim).
During further questioning, the two admitted to being Yemeni citizens. They stated that the DPRI application was made at the direction of an individual identified as JFFR, whom they met in Saudi Arabia. To date, this individual has not been contacted and is still under investigation.
Officers also secured evidence in the form of Yemeni national passports, C1 Visas, e-KTPs, family cards, and birth certificates.
Violate Immigration Law
Based on the results of the investigation, FAM and AHM are suspected of violating Article 122 letter a and Article 126 letter c of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration, regarding the misuse of residence permits and attempts to illegally obtain Indonesian travel documents.
Both also meet the requirements of Article 75 of the Immigration Law, thus subjecting them to administrative action in the form of revocation of their residence permits, placement in detention, and deportation from Indonesia. Immigration has also proposed adding their names to the Prevention and Deterrence List (cekal).
Head of the Jambi Class I TPI Immigration Office, Hubertus Hence Marbun, emphasized that enforcing immigration law is a priority in maintaining national sovereignty and order.
“Supervision will be effective if the public plays an active role in reporting the presence or activities of suspicious foreigners,” he said.
Investigations revealed that these two foreign nationals were first-time visitors to Indonesia and were suspected of being victims of fraud by a party promising to illegally process documents. Authorities are still investigating the possible involvement of other parties in this case. (rih)
